Design Concept

In May 2023 we are launching a new fresh identity for Bath Artists' Studios. We want to reach out to the community in Bath and further afield to promote our space for making, networking and developing creative opportunities.

I have been leading this project through artist conversations and discussions; What is an art studio? What is an art community? What is needed to have a sustainable creative practice? The artist's research led to several reoccurring keywords, Community, Creativity, Space and Opportunity. These words acted as the catalyst for mapping out a vision. Last summer, Mytton Williams, a leading creative design agency based in Bath, kindly got on board to channel the research into a visual concept. The open conversations led to a vital question, what is an artist's creative art space? It is more than a physical studio space. It is the virtual space, the external working spaces and the artist's headspace. The result was to have a visual communication that acts as an umbrella for all the different art practices and captures the versatility and flexibility of a creative community.

Residency Program

Bath Artists' Studios work closely with Bath Spa University (BSU). Every year, a BSU Fine Art graduate is awarded a 10-Month residency at the studios, and many stay longer to develop their art practice. Our artists enjoy mentoring and supporting graduates and early-stage career artists, and some of our members lecture on degree courses at the university.

Bath Spa University Intern Placements

In recent years we have worked with the university to offer work experience opportunities. In fact, Fine Arts student Emma Matthews helped with the development of this website!

Many Bath Artists' Studio members work with Creativity Works on their diverse outreach programs. Every year, the Roper Gallery is the venue for Fresh Arts, an exciting Creativity Works project that is part of the FRinge Arts Bath Festival.
