Eric Holmes: FOCUSED ON WHAT IS IMPORTANT

1st - 9th July. Daily 11am to 4pm.

This solo exhibition brings together the paintings, illustrations and films of Eric Holmes, a Texas-born fine artist and filmmaker with deep ties to the city of Bath.

Playful and offbeat on the surface, Eric’s artworks tip the viewer towards a deeper sense of unease and dislocation. Often, they invite an emotional connection to eccentric characters, whose strangeness is made authentic and relatable through Eric’s attention to posture and expression. An avid collector of overheard conversations, Eric worked across a range of media, from oils to Sharpies to film, to create artworks that convey a human yearning for love and resolution.

His idiosyncratic style may reflect his own dislocations: born in Dallas, Eric lived variously in Bath, Tucson, London, San Diego and Alaska, while always maintaining friendships around the world by text message and postcard. Eric passed away unexpectedly in 2022 in London shortly after completing his 500-mile pilgrimage of the Camino de Santiago, “The Way of Saint James”.

You can see more of Eric’s fantastic work here.
